But with some patience and help from your family you should be able to introduce a new sibling with confidence! | | Keep Life Normal First of all, it's important to try and keep life as normal as possible for your other children in the lead up to the baby arriving. This means ensuring that they have been doing regular day to day activities and sticking to a routine to keep their world as normal as possible. Introduce them at the Hospital Once the bub is born, bring them to the hospital and introduce them, and if they're older enough, let them hold him/er. This will help them feel more confident inter new role a s big brother or sister! Spend 1:1 time with your other children Now's the time to take advantage of your support network. When you get the chance, spend some 1:1 time with your other children, especially if you only have the one. They've only known life with you and have always had your full attention so it may be a bit harder for them understand that your attention is going to be towards the baby sometimes too. So keep fussing over them and rewarding them when they do the right thing. Expect Challenges As with everything with relating to children, always expect challenges. There is the chance that your other children will react negatively to the introduction of a newborn and often this is just done as a way to seek attention.
