    Dear Mrs. KRAZY,

Travelling by air connects people and cultures and ensures that companies can do business all over the world. As an airline, we are well aware that our industry must become more sustainable and that we must do our utmost to reduce our environmental impact. KLM has therefore committed itself to pursuing the objectives of the Paris climate agreement.

For years, we have endeavoured to reduce our CO2 emissions through fleet renewal and by making our products and operations more sustainable. In addition, KLM is committed to leading the industry in the development and utilisation of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). Although we already hold a substantial share of the global SAF market, SAF accounts for less than 1% of our total fuel consumption. To achieve our climate ambitions, we intend to power 10% of our flights with sustainable aviation fuel by 2030. To this end, we will be taking two new initiatives, which are briefly outlined below.

    Best wishes,

    Bas Gerressen

Sustainable aviation fuel is the future
From January 2022, every KLM flight leaving Amsterdam will have a small percentage of SAF mixed in with its standard jet fuel. As SAF is more expensive, KLM will add a small surcharge to every ticket sold, varying from 1 to 4 euros in Economy Class, depending on the distance flown.

    New: CO2ZERO with SAF
In addition to compensating your CO2 emissions for your flight, our CO2ZERO programme now offers you the possibility to voluntarily make an additional SAF contribution. You can now decide how you wish to contribute to sustainable travel.
