    For centuries, we’ve dreamed of travelling to distant worlds. Together we’ve set out to discover and experience new adventures. But planet earth is still the only one we can call home, and we need to protect it.

    If we want to keep travelling, we’ll need to find new ways of doing so. At KLM, we’re committed to making our processes and products more sustainable, thereby reducing our ecological footprint. We hope our latest video will inspire others to do the same. Because pursuing sustainable travel on earth, is our greatest adventure yet.

    		Our route to more sustainable aviation
     
    Sustainable Aviation Fuel
    This year we became the world’s first airline to operate a passenger flight partly fuelled with sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). By replacing fossil fuel with this synthetic kerosene, we can reduce CO2 emissions by 85%.

    Innovative aircraft
    We can also substantially reduce our ecological footprint with a more economical fleet. We will therefore be welcoming 25 new Embraer 195-E2 aircraft, which burn 9% less fuel and reduce CO2 emissions by 31% per passenger, compared to the Embraer 190.

    Optimum maintenance
    Sustainability is not just a question of improving our fleet, but also our processes. We can reduce CO2 emissions by critically assessing operations and making minor adjustments, ranging from more efficient routes to more timely maintenance and the recycling of washing water.
