    The conflict as you had probably guessed, was over cod fishing. In 1958 Iceland expanded its fishery zone from 4 to 12 nautical miles & Britain refused to recognize this. Iceland responded by cutting trawler nets and giving warning shots. This caused the UK to commit a very large Navy presence, along with further extensions through the next years resulted in three cod wars. One Icelandic death resulted from electrocution when an engineer was welding a flooded compartment after ship ramming. Iceland won all three cod Wars.
