Estimated production numbers for the series range from 86,000 to 100,000. The first T-54 prototype was completed at the end of 1945 shortly after WW2. Initial production had some teething issues, so meanwhile the T-34-85 still accounted for 88% of tank production through the 1950s (The T-34 design coming in a close second with approximately 84,070 built). Although long retired by Russia, the T-54 is still widely used across the planet, many having received sophisticated retrofitting.
