    Only once did Japan set foot in Australia during WW2. A small landing party performing reconnaissance in the Kimberley region of Western Australia on the 19th Jan, 1944. U-Boat 862 patrolled around New Zealand and even entered the Port of Napier - giving birth to rumours that the German crew landed to pinch some milk. This has been debunked though as a joke after the war.
