| For over 30 years, People Tree have been committed to gender equality, investing in supportive communities and creating opportunities for women, all over the world, as a pioneer of Fair Trade fashion.
We are proud to have a fantastic team of women involved at every level of People Tree, from our top leadership teams in London and Japan, to our skilled farmers and artisan makers around the world.
Today we're taking the opportunity to dive into the rich story of one of our garments, spotlighting the incredible women involved in bringing the Lea Striped Dress to life.

| Our Lea Dress was dyed, woven, and sewn by a women's project in Thanapara Swallows, Bangladesh. People Tree have worked with Swallows for many years.
This social and Fair Trade enterprise, was set up after the war of independence to provide opportunities for the women of their village to support themselves and their families after the devastating massacre of all the adult males in the village.
Swallows' mission has always been to empower the underprivileged population by eradicating illiteracy, creating health awareness and self-employment, ultimately empowering women by creating economic and social independence.

| As a women's project, even hand weaving, which is normally considered men's work, is done by women. Profits from Fair Trade help cover the running costs of the Swallows school and People Tree started a day care centre for the workers' young children in 2007.
