Saying goodbye to the much-loved Black Hawks.

After 33 years of service, the S-70A-9 Black Hawk was retired from service with the Australian Army. These much-loved aircraft have undertaken a wide range of operations both domestically and overseas and have remained a popular helicopter among serving and retired members and the Australian public. While we won’t be saying goodbye to all Black Hawk helicopters entirely following the announcement by the Minister of Defence that 40 new Black Hawks were to be purchased, it is the end of an era for the S-70A-9 Black Hawks. Bill Mellor, Jock Crocombe and Peter Simpson of the Australian Army Aviation Association say goodbye to these good and faithful servants, read more here.

On March 1st, the Australian Army celebrated its 121st birthday.

Birthday celebrations and the presentation of the Jonathan Church Good Soldiering Awards to recipients of the past two years were held in Canberra to mark the day. The celebrations honoured all those who have served, recognising past and present servicemen and women who have defended Australia since 1 March 1901.
