    Meet the Barn Owls!

A common and much adored visitor in the UK countryside, they are easily identified by their distinctive heart shaped face or 'facial disc' and pure white underparts.

Barn owls are committed lovers, they often mate for life and return to their same nesting spot each year - just like our Barn Owls have!

    Interesting facts about Barn Owls

Barn owls are wonderful creatures, with their distinctive features they are easily one of the most recognisable owl species.

These beautiful birds are known for their human-like personalities which varies per individual. Some barn owls can be shy, fearful or outgoing and sociable, this differs per bird - adding to their extraordinary personality and features!

Want to know more? Read on!

Screeching with purpose: Barn owls express their needs and desires to one another through their own language. Their complexed and specific sounds help vocally communicate to each other if they are hungry, threatened or in need.

Big Bird Brain: Barn owls are clever creatures and have been known to use traps and bait to lure their supper! Such as collecting dung to entice beetles - a favourite of the barn owl!

White for the fright: White is an odd colour choice for a nocturnal predator, not all barn owl species are as white as the British barn owl subspecies, but it is thought that the white 'flash' they present when striking their prey is enough to startle mice and voles - like a deer in the headlights! Giving the barn owl enough time to strike and get their supper.
