Getting to know the Chaffinch!

The chaffinch, also known as the Fringilla Coelebs are part of the finch family! They are one of the most common birds in the UK and Ireland. Their patterned plumage helps them blend when feeding on the ground. In flight they are most noticeable with their bright white wing detail.

These birds love to eat seeds and insects! They are most likely to be seen bobbing along on the ground in search for food, but will also feed on feeding tables and perch onto easily accessible feeders! These garden birds prefer to nest in bushes and trees and will make up their nests with bits of grass and foliage they find on the ground.
