Not All Bakuchiol Serums are created equally - Bakuchiol is a highly purified active ingredient coming from the plant psoralea corylifolia, commonly called babchi. Bakuchiol has seen its popularity spiked after a publication from Dhaliwal et al in the British journal of Dermatology in 20181. Sytenol® A, commercial name of Bakuchiol was described as a gentler alternative to retinol for the skin, with better photostability and similar performances for photoaging. In a clinical study, 16 volunteers, age 41 to 60, tested a lotion containing 1% of Bakuchiol. After 12 weeks, there was significant improvement in lines and wrinkles (-20% wrinkle depth), pigmentation, elasticity, firmness and overall photo-damage, with no irritating effect on skin. THIS is the extract we use, it is 99% Bakuchiol which is OIL soluble. Unfortunately there are brands capitalizing on Bakuchiols popularity and basically deliberately trying to mislead YOU the consumer. They are NOT using the tried and tested 99% Bakuchiol Extract Sytenol A from Sython and instead use an inhouse extraction from the Babchi plant - Psoralea Corylifolia. The extracts they are using have not been shown to be an alternative to Retinol and you will not see the same results. The INCI for the Sytheon extract Sytenol A is BAKUCHIOL and the INCI for the Babchi extract not proven to do anything is Psoralea Corylifolia seed extract.
