Dear Hero, I wanted to write to you today about a sensitive, but extremely important topic. When I heard the statistic I’m about to share with you, it hit me like a ton of bricks. I almost couldn’t believe it. I immediately knew the iHeartDogs family needed to do something about it. The fact is this: 47% of domestic violence victims won’t leave an abusive relationship because they can’t take their pets. Shockingly, about 90% of domestic violence shelters cannot accept pets. In other words, a survivor is being forced to leave a furry family member behind if they seek safety! This is truly heartbreaking. Even more disturbing was that fact that if a woman leaves an abuser, the pet often becomes the NEXT victim. This subsequent abuse is often fatal when the anger is redirected at a helpless animal. Today, we’re asking you for urgent help. We’re introducing a new initiative called Safe & Together. Our mission is to remove this unfortunate barrier by helping fund crisis safe spaces that accommodate the survivors AND their pets. For each item purchased, you’ll provide 1 day of safety and care for domestic violence victims to stay at a facility that has the resources to keep their pet with them. You can also donate directly to the mission here. We believe no one should EVER be left behind. Will you join us? Marshall Morris, iHeartDogs Co-Founder |
