The earliest iteration of this amazing elixir is from around 400 BC, when the father of modern medicine Hippocrates, prescribed Oxymel to patients as a general panacea. Oxymel is referred to no less than 14 times in his transcript "On Regimen in Acute Diseases".

A spiced vinegar concoction called Four Thieves Vinegar was said to have been used during the plague in Marsailes [France] in medieval times, to prevent the catching the 'Black Death'.

This herbal vinegar tincture may have helped reduce the risk of contracting the plague, as contained natural antimicrobials and flea repellents.
