| | Things have certainly looked less turbulent in Silicon Valley. With the economy entering a turbulent stretch, the tech sector, as a whole, appears to be scaling back. And that’s not the industry’s only headache: A recent decision by a Texas federal appeals court allows the state’s controversial new social media law, HB 20, to go into effect immediately, clearing the way for state residents to sue big social media companies if they believe their posts or tweets were removed for the “viewpoint” they expressed. Meanwhile, in D.C., the window appears to be closing for Democrats to reestablish net neutrality rules (much to internet service providers’ delight).
Yet, it’s not all doom and gloom. Just this past week, Apple announced a new feature called Apple Watch Mirroring that will provide access to the watch from a paired iPhone, with the watch interface replicated on the phone—a development that marks a huge upgrade in terms of accessibility. On top of that, we saw stories of floating solar farms, new no-code development platforms, and an exciting new project that allows musicians to sell their music royalties to fans as NFTs. So, hang tight. The tech world has seen better days, sure. But it’s not all bad. —Max Ufberg, @Max_Uf | | | | | |
