| | For two new buildings at the North American headquarters of Adidas, the main architectural element is a monumental staircase. The bold graphics that decorate it originated in an unexpected place: the soles of sneakers.
These shoe tread supergraphics are just one way Adidas' new buildings take the branding to a whole new level. Designed by Studio O+A with LEVER Architecture, the two buildings feature bold graphic treatments throughout, evoking everything from the fabric of the company's clothes to the signage in a stadium.
At a time when working in an office is far from a given, the buildings do more than just make space for workers. By acting as architectural-scale branding, they show that office buildings can project a brand's vision and identity even when most of the people advancing that vision and identity are doing it from home.
