NEeD VOL.6 - A TRIPLE DIP-HOPPED IMPERIAL IPA The sixth beer in our bi-monthly IPA series sees us experimenting with some new hopping techniques to brew the biggest NEeD yet! What the hell is a DIP HOP? Dip-hopping is a process that involves using 80 degree water to hydrate the hops for 60min prior to being added to the beer, rather than the usual ‘dry-hopping’ which we do at around 18 degrees. We were interested to see which hop flavours and aromas would present at this higher temp. We expected to see a boost in aroma and flavour and a reduction in some of the green and grassy notes found in many hop forward beers. The resultant ale is HUGE. Tell me about the beer! This imperial IPA pours a luminous copper colour in the glass, giving it some classic West Coast leanings. We get massive aromas of fresh orange juice, the body is BIG and there's some nice, burnt orange bitterness before a long, warming finish. It definitely presents a more levelled flavour profile than you’d expect in an beer hopped this much. Infact it’s dangerously quaffable at 8.5%. HOPS - Centennial, Cascade, Citra, Mosaic + Vic Secret MALT - Gladfield Ale, Munich, Carapils and Light crystal. YEAST - US05 |
