Celebrate Juneteenth! This year, we’re featuring artist Domonique Brown and hearing from our associates on what this day means to them. Domonique created the custom art in this email (and on our social media). To learn more about her work, head over to our Instagram! Juneteenth (a.k.a. Freedom Day or Emancipation Day) commemorates the emancipation of enslaved Black Americans. “It’s a reminder that we as Black people must remain vigilant when it comes to securing our own liberation. Laws meant to free us mean nothing if we don’t hold those enforcing them accountable.” - Alexis T., Senior Forecast Analyst (She/her) The events of June 19 ignited a day of remembrance and traditions that many still partake in today. Here are just a few ways our community is celebrating. “I’m celebrating for the first time with co-workers. We’ll enjoy a poetry reading and hear a historian speak. Each year I watch a Juneteenth show. A family cook-out will wrap up my celebration.” - Anita S., Director of Design Operations (She/her) “I wanted this piece to embody Black joy and show that Black people are able to find happiness despite a traumatic history of oppression. As the saying goes, ‘we are our ancestors’ wildest dreams,’ so why not celebrate?” - Domonique Brown (She/her) Read more about our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
